The Exhibit

How do people personally experience Chinatown?

During the first prototype stage, we worked to choose the right colours and layout for each element to make them stand out on the carpet. These elements were inspired by the sights of Chinatown and were to be incorporated into the pavilion's interior carpet design, creating an experience where every step feels like a journey through culturally significant places.

Carpet & Pavilion

Designing in sync with the pavilion structure

To ensure the carpet matched the pavilion precisely, we collaborated closely with the column team and main structure team to determine the final carpet shape, ensuring the design aligned perfectly with the pavilion's outer form and interior experience.

Prototyping the Pattern

Iterating toward the right palette and composition

In the initial prototype phase, we diligently pursued the optimal colour palette and layout for each element, intending to effectively convey the Chinatown experience on the carpet. Multiple iterations were tested against the pavilion structure before arriving at the final design.
